Hockey Swept by LTU in Physical Series
(Howell, MI)-- Cleary played the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in a two-game series this weekend, and the two teams ignited for a combined 52 minutes of penalties over the two games that saw the #21 ranked Blue Devils come away with a pair of wins this past weekend.
In Game 1: Ben Gledhow got the Cougars on the board with the 1st period's only goal after he slotted one past the goalie, with assists from Jonny Gardiner and Wes Smith. LTU would increase the pressure, but goalie Koby Kebbe was able to keep the puck out, and saw the Cougars take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period was all LTU, as the visitors scored 3 straight goals in the first 15 minutes of period action to take a lead, including the game's only power play goal, before Cleary's Jonny Gardiner brought one back for the Cougars with assists from Zach Eakes and Zack Wiener.
Cleary would tie the game in the early goings of the 3rd period after Ben Gledhow scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway, with assits from Jonny Gardiner and Zack Wiener, but LTU would answer back to take the lead just over halfway through the final stanza. It would get interesting late, as the Blue Devils got called for back to back to back penalties, but Cleary just could not find the equalizer on the ensuing power plays, as LTU would hold on to win 4-3.
Koby Kebbe made 44 saves on 48 shots, and Ben Gledhow had 2 goals in the game.
In Game 2: Lawrence Tech jumped on the board in the first two minutes, and would add another early second period goal to take a 2-0 lead before Ben Gledhow intercepted a pass and slotted a goal past the LTU goalie to make it 2-1. LTU would get two more goals in that second period to take a 4-1 lead into the final 20 minutes. The Blue Devils would add one more power play goal, but Cam Thomas scored a power play goal of his own, with assists from Zack Wiener and Koby Kebbe, to narrow the deficit, but Cleary would not get closer. A deflected and weirdly bouncing puck slipped past Kebbe late to finish the scoring for the game, as LTU would go on to win 6-2.
Kebbe would finish with 35 saves on 41 shots. Cleary drops to 3-9, 2-8 in WHAC-tion. The Cougars will be back in action this weekend in a non-conference series against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Cleary will host on Saturday, November 13 at the 140 Ice Den at 5:00 PM.
