(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars ACHA Hockey team took on the Concordia University Cardinals this weekend. The Cougars were able to bounce back in the win column with two wins on the weekend
In Game 1 at Concordia:
Friday night's game would get off to a slow start, however, Collin Kerchoff would kick things off with a late first-period goal to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. A few penalties and a Concordia goal would be the story of the second period as the Cougars would be shut down. The Cougars would bounce back though and take the lead with three goals in the third period. Dylan Tammadge would score the first goal in the period with an assist from Bennett Sheppard. Collin Kerchoff would score the next two goals for the Cougars giving him a hat trick on the night. The Cardinals would score once in the third period but the Cougars would prevail for a 4-2 victory.
Nick Meyering (8-5) got the start in goal and picked up the win for the Cougars and would make 25 saves on 27 shots. Braedon Bzovey picked up two assists in this game as well.
In Game 2 vs Concordia:
Saturday night would get off to another slow start. Both teams would stay out of the penalty box in the first period and each team would get one goal up on the board. The Cougar goal would come within the first three minutes of the game from Zach Eakes. Dylan Tammadge would take the Cougars to a 2-1 in the second period with assists from Collin Kerchoff and Brett Woolcott. The third period would see most of the action from the game as Concordia would score two goals and the Cougars would score five goals. Three of the Cougar goals came within a four-minute span of each other. The goals would come from Landen Engles, Zane Rydel, Bennett Sheppard, and Steven Miller. JC Garbacik would add the last Cougar goal of the night unassisted and the Cougars would go on to win 7-3.
Nick Meyering (9-5) would get the win in net for the Cougars making 30 saves on 33 shots. Landen Engles goal was his first of the season.
Cleary is now 17-11 and 12-6 in WHAC Conference play on the season. The Cougars will hit the ice again next week when they take on the Aquinas University Saints. Friday night's game will be at 140 Ice Den. Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM.
