(Ft. Wayne, IN)-- The Cleary Cougars women's soccer team dug themselves in to a deficit, but the comeback came up short at Indiana Tech Wednesday evening in Ft. Wayne.
The Warriors would score just past the halfway point of the first half to take a 1-0 lead, which they were able to maintain through halftime. Right after the game resumed, the Warriors doubled their lead, and took a 2-0 lead. 15 minutes later, Taylor Franco forced a turnover after a throw-in. Franco passed the ball up the field to Cristina de Miguel, who then centered the ball at the top of the penalty area to Elena Strauss. Strauss made a turn and found Haley Finazzo out wide, who beat a defender before firing the ball into the top-right corner of the net to cut the Warrior lead to 2-1. That would be the only Cougar goal, however, as the hosts were able to go on and secure the victory.
Tara McGrath suffered the loss in goal, as she made 8 saves while allowing 2 goals. Haley Finazzo's goal was her first of the season, while Elena Strauss' assist was her third of the season.
Cleary drops to 3-9, 1-7 in the WHAC. The Cougars will play their final home game of the season on Saturday, October 22, when they host the Aquinas College Saints at Lake Trust Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
