(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars women's soccer team recognized 7 seniors as part of Saturday's homecoming and senior day festivities, but the visiting UM-Dearborn Wolverines spoiled the celebration, as the visitors earned the crucial WHAC victory Saturday afternoon at Lake Trust Stadium.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, UM-Dearborn got on the board in the 64th minute. After a free kick was awarded in the Cougars defensive half, the ball was kicked into Cleary's penalty area. Cleary was unable to clear the ball, and the Wolverines took advantage, as their shot went into the side netting to make the score 1-0. UM-Dearborn's defense stood up to the challenge, as they were able to hold on to pick up the victory.
Tara McGrath suffered the loss in goal, as she allowed 1 goal while making 8 saves.
Both teams had 3 corner kicks in the game, while UM-Dearborn outshot Cleary 12-8. The Wolverines also committed 10 fouls to Cleary's 4.
Cleary drops to 3-6, 1-4 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, October 14, when they welcome the UNOH Racers to Lake Trust Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
