(Grand Rapids, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team made the trip to Grand Rapids, taking on the host Cornerstone University Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon in a WHAC matchup.
Cornerstone would strike first in the games opening couple minutes to take a 1-0 lead, which they were able to hold onto for the reaminder of the half. After doubling their lead shortly after the game resumed in the second half, the Golden Eagles scored the dagger in the 82nd minute to make the score 3-0. Cleary would get on the board when Elena Strauss scored her third goal of the season in the 87th minute. After forcing a turnover, Cleary's Taylor Franco delivered a through ball into the penalty area to find Elena Strauss, who fired the ball past a diving goalie to narrow the deficit, but the gap would prove to be too much to overcome.
Tara McGrath suffered the loss in goal, as she allowed 3 goals on 17 shots while making 14 saves.
Cleary drops to 2-5-0, 0-3-0 in WHAC play. The Cougars will make the trip to Ann Arbor on Wednesday, October 5, as they take on the Concordia Cardinals in a WHAC matchup. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
