Women's Lacrosse Falls in Home Opener
(Howell, MI): The Cleary Cougars Women's Lacrosse team got to play at home for the first time this season, but it was not a friendly homecoming as the Cougars fell to the visiting Indiana Tech Warriors 22-6 Saturday evening.
Indiana Tech would control the game from the opening draw, as they would score the first 5 goals of the game. Maya Williams would get the Cougars on the board narrowing the gap to 5-1, but the Warriors would answer again to expand their lead. Lexi Wallace would add another goal for Cleary about halfway through the first half, but the Warriors would score the next 7 goals before Mallory Tognetti's goal befor half sent the Cougars into the break down 13-3.
Cleary showed some life early in the second half, as Isabel Carr added a free position shot goal. Indiana Tech would answer, scoring 6 straight goals to take a 19-4 lead. Cleary's Sydney Dickerson scored with 16 minutes left , and after another Warrior goal, Dickerson added her second goal of the game. The Warriors would add 2 more goals to secure the 22-6 victory.
Sydney Dickerson led Cleary with 2 goals on 7 shots (4 on goal), while Mallory Tognetti, Maya Williams, Isabel Carr, and Lexi Wallace each added 1 goal. Anna Clark had 6 saves in the game for Cleary.
Cleary drops to 0-2 overall and in the WHAC. They will next be in action Monday when they host the Lourdes University Gray Wolves. The game is set to start at 6:00 pm.
