Walk-off and Mercy Lead to Cougar Sweep

(Melbourne, FL)—The Cougars were back at the Space Coast Games today and played Ave Maria and Washington Adventist.
In Game 1 vs. Ave Maria: The Cougars came in with a hot start again this morning, scoring three runs in the top of the 1st inning. Despite giving Ave Maria a 4-3 lead with their 6th inning rally, the Cougars still finished on top. Taking it down to the nail, Sarah Cassidy doubled to score Courtney Ture and walked off the game in the bottom of the seventh inning finalizing the score at 5-4 in favor of the Cougars.
Sonya Terleckyj earned the win against the Gyrenes, and threw a complete game. Along with Cassidy, the Cougars three other runs can be credited to Grace Pasterik and Gabby Monreal—Monreal having 3 of the 5 RBIs. Kate Currie led the team offensively today going 2-for-2 with a walk, followed by Monreal going 2-for-3.
In Game 2 vs. Washington Adventist: Giving up a run in the top of the first didn't stop the Cougars from dominating WAU. Cleary softball won against the Hawks 10-2 in six innings with Halle Dargie throwing all 6 and earning the win. The Cougars fifth and sixth inning was their hottest as they scored 9 of their 10 runs between the two innings.
The Cougars capitalized offensively and had 14 hits within the six innings. Leaders for the Cougars were Kate Currie going 3-for-4, and Grace Pasterik and Mia Rzepka both going 2-for-3. Rzepka led the team in RBIs with 4 runs throughout the game.
Cleary softball will be back in action on Thursday, March 9th for two games, one at 9:00am & another at 2:00pm.
