Wrestling Takes 7th at WHAC Championships; Awards Announced
(Indianapolis, IN)-- The Cleary Cougar wrestling team concluded their 2023-24 regular season with the WHAC Championships Saturday in Indianapolis.
In the 133 lb. Class: Seth Justin would lose his first round and consolation round matches by fall, the first in 3:19, and the second in 1:39, going 0-2
In the 149 lb. Class: Carson Boisvert lost his first round match to Kliever Joseph of Siena Heights by a 14-9 decision. He would get pinned in the consolation round match in 2:27 to go 0-2
In the 157 lb. Class: Ty Johnson lost both his matches by fall, going 0-2
In the 174 lb. Class: Lenton Patrick lost by a major decision to Cornerstone's Cooper Mansfield 16-4. Patrick would lose his consolation round match by a technical fall 19-4 to Lourdes' Niko Christo, going 0-2
Wyatt Clements was also entered in the 174, and was pinned in his first round and consolation round matches to go 0-2
In the 184 lb. Class: Tyler Brooks would get pinned in his opening round match, but pinned Marian's Liam Begley in the consolation round in 1:46. Brooks would lose to Marian's Will Stewart in the Consolation semifinals due to medical forfeit, and would have to withdraw due to injury in the 5th place match. Brooks would still earn 6.5 team points for the Cougars.
As a team, Cleary would finish in 7th place.
Also announced at the WHAC Championships were the postseason awards. Two Cougars were recognized by the Conference.
Ryan Weaver was named to the WHAC's All-Academic Team for maintaining a GPA over a 3.25, and Ty Johnson was named to the WHAC's Champions of Character team.
