Cougars Place Two at Trine Wrestling Invitational
(Angola, IN)-- The Cleary Cougars wrestling team had a strong showing against some very good competition on Saturday when they wrestled in the Trine University Invitational in Angola, Indiana, placing two wrestlers in the Open Tournament.
Coach Greg Barner was pleased with the effort his team put out, saying "It was a solid weekend, with some extremely tough competition, but I'm very happy with the effort and the way our guys competed this weekend." The tough competition included two top-15 NCAA Division 3 teams in John Carroll and Baldwin Wallace, and WHAC foe and #3 ranked Indiana Tech.
The two Cougars that placed were Logan Ladach and Jacob Spiess. Ladach went 4-2 in the 133 lb division to place 4th, and Spiess went 4-2 in the HWT division to place 5th. Coach Barner was really impressed with both placers, as this was Ladach's first collegiate competition, and Spiess was wrestling up a weight division. "Logan is a young guy with a high ceiling. He puts in a lot of extra work, so were happy to see that pay off for him. Jacob just continues to compete hard every time he steps out there. The deeper he went in the tournament, the better he got. That's so impressive considering he's wrestling up a weight class right now. He's off to a great start."
