(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars men's lacrosse team gave #5 team in the country, the Aquinas Saints, all they could handle, but the Saints would pull away in the second half to pick up the WHAC victory.
After four goals by Aquinas to start the game, Cleary got on the board on a quick press break, as they successfully cleared the ball to Danny Pudduck, who found Zach Eakes at the top of the zone, who found Riley Finlay just to the right of net to score the Cougars' first goal. Aquinas would add one more goal just before the end of the period to take a 5-1 lead into the first quarter intermission. The Saints would strike first in the second quarter, but Mike Smith would get one back, as he scored with an assist from Danny Pudduck to make the score 6-2. Aquinas would add three more goals before halftime to take a 9-2 lead into the break. The second half was all Aquinas , as they exploded for seven goals in the third quarter, and four more in the final fifteen minutes, as they held Cleary to only five shots the whole second half.
Adam Roper was once again stellar in goal, making a career best 29 saves in the game. Cleary Drops to 0-10, 0-5 in WHAC play. They will be back in action on Wednesday, April 13, when they travel to Lourdes to take on the Gray Wolves. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
**Note: We apologize to fans that attended with the hope of getting a rally towel. The rally towel game will now be on Wednesday, April 20 vs. Taylor.
