(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars played a pair of games against WHAC rival Concordia, and the Cardinals would take both games in the series this weekend.
In Game 1: After the Cardinals opened the game with the first three goals to take a 3-0 lead into the 2nd period, Jonny Gardiner scored to get the Cougars on the board, with assists from Wes Smith and Zach Eakes, to make it 3-1 going into the final 20 minutes. Concordia would add an insurance goal in the 3rd period to regain the three goal advantage, and held on to win by that score.
Koby Kebbe suffered the loss in goal, as he made 45 saves on 49 shots. Jonny Gardiner's goal was his fifth of the season.
In Game 2: The two teams traded goals in the first two periods to find themselves tied 2-2 going into the final 20 minutes. Cleary's first goal was scored on the power play by Joe Heinzelman, and assisted by Ben Gledhow and Aden Michael. Cleary's second goal was scored by Wes Smith, and assisted by Zack Wiener and Ben Gledhow, and was also scored on the power play. After Concordia retook the lead early in the 3rd period, Marc Alexander scored to tie the game again at 3-3, with assists from Devon Campbell and Justin Reddy. Still tied at 3-3 late in the game, a crucial major penalty was called against the Cougars, followed by a second penalty shortly after. The Cardinals took advantage, and scored twice to take a 5-3 lead. Cleary would get one back when Jonny Gardiner scored, with assists from Zack Wiener and Dalton Cummings, but the deficit would be too much to overcome and force overtime.
Tyler Krasofsky suffered the loss in goal, as he allowed 5 goals while making 42 saves. Zach Wiener and Ben Gledhow each had 2 assists for the Cougars. Cleary drops to 0-10 on the season, and 0-6 in the WHAC. The Cougars will look ahead to a two-game series with UM-Dearborn next weekend, with the Cougars hosting on Friday, October 28. The puck drops at 140 Ice Den at 6:30 PM.
