(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars ACHA Division 1 team built a two goal lead into the 3rd period, but ultimately fell in overtime, as the Toledo Rockets won both games in a two game series this weekend.
In Game 1 at Toledo: Three 1st period goals gave the Rockets an early lead, but Cleary would get on the board in the period, as Marc Alexander found the back of the net with an assist from Aden Michael. The Cougars were unable to narrow the gap any further, as the Rockets went on to win 4-1.
Koby Kebbe suffered the loss in goal, as he allowed 4 goals on 43 shots while making 39 saves. Marc Alexander's goal was his first of the season.
In Game 2 vs. Toledo: Aden Michael was able to open things up just 87 seconds into the game, as a centering pass from Cam Thomas set things up (with a secondary assist from Zach Perry) to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Tyler Krasofsky stood strong, and Cleary would go into the first intermission leading 1-0. The Rockets would answer in the second period, and the score would be 1-1 going into the final 20 minutes of action. Cleary scored twice in a matter of two minutes to take a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period. Joe Heinzelman netted his first goal of the season, with an assist from Cam Thomas, while Dalton Cummings scored his first goal this season, with assists from Brendyn Galloner and Zach Perry. Toledo stormed back, scoring three goals to take a 4-3 lead. Still down a goal, and with an empty net, the Cougars were able to find the equalizer, as Ben Gledhow scored, with assists from Jonny Gardiner and Wes Smith, to tie the game at 4-4.
In overtime and with time running out, Toledo scored with six seconds left on the clock to win the game.
Tyler Krasofsky suffered the loss, and drops to 0-3 on the season. He made 41 saves on 46 shots face.
Cleary drops to 0-4, and will take on the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in a pair of games next weekend. Celebrate Homecoming at 140 Ice Den on Saturday, October 8, when the two teams face off at 5:00 PM.
