Baseball Drops Both Games in Double-Header to Georgetown
(Lexington, KY)-- The Cleary Cougar baseball team took on one of the NAIA's best teams so far this season, and dropped both games of their double-header to the Georgetown College Tigers Tuesday afternoon.
In Game 1: Georgetown jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but Cleary would respond with a run in each of the next two innings. In the 4th, Ben Cerven singled, Billy Flohr doubled, and Sam Browne walked to load the bases, bringing up Jacob Townley. Townley would single to score Cerven, cutting into the Tiger lead. In the 5th, Kristian Scalf got on base after getting hit by a pitch, advanced on a wild pitch, and stole third base. Zach Agemak singled Scalf home to make the score 4-2. That would be the last run scored by Cleary in the game, and the Tigers added a late insurance run to take game one 5-2.
Noah Bowles took the loss on the mound, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4. Kristian Scalf had 2 of Cleary's 6 hits, and scored a run.
In Game 2: Georgetown once again scored in the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead, but Cleary would tie the game in the 4th. Sam Browne led off the inning with a double (Quinn Foster would pitch-run), who advanced to third on a balk. Albert Gonzalez scored Foster on an RBI groundout to tie the game at 1-1. Georgetown would walk it off in the bottom of the 7th, with a game-winning single.
Haden Fisk was excellent as the starter for the Cougars, as he allowed 1 run on 2 hits through 6 innings pitched. Ryan Lieng took the loss in relief. Sam Browne led the offense with a 2/2 day at the plate with 2 walks.
Cleary is now 10-6 on the season. The Cougars will wrap up their spring break trip on Thursday with a double-header vs. the Bluefield Rams. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
