Cougars Take 6th at WHAC Championships; Awards Announced
(Augusta, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's golf team competed in the WHAC Championships at Stonehedge North Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan this past Monday and Tuesday, and a day two surge helped the team clinch the highest WHAC finish in the program's history.
- Olivia Root turned in rounds of 84-81-79 to shoot a 244 and finished in a tie for 10th place
- Madeline Swett shot 83-88-86 to shoot 257 and finished in a tie for 21st place
- Alexis Sharplin shot 86-91-86 to shoot 263 and finished in a tie for 27th place
- Payton Leedle finished in 38th, after shooting 93-91-85 for a total of 269
- Maryann Montgomery shot 89-91-99 to shoot 279 and finished in 42nd place
As a team, Cleary finished in 6th place, after climbing up two spots from 8th after day one, and shot a team score 1029, just five strokes out of 5th place. Olivia Root's round of 79 was a personal best, and Madeline Swett's round of 83 was a personal best. The lineup featured three freshmen, a junior, and a senior, so the future is bright for Cleary golf.
The WHAC also announced the postseason awards at the Championships, and multiple Cougars were recognized.
Olivia Root was named Second Team All-WHAC after her finish in the top 10 at the tournament.
Carman McMahon was named to the WHAC's Champions of Character team.
Autumn Blaney, Tapanga Loviska, Carman McMahon, and Olivia Root were all named to the All-Academic Team.
