Cougar Wrestling Competes at Missouri Valley Invite This Past Weekend
(Marshall, MO)-- The Cleary Cougars wrestling team sent four wrestlers to one of the largest and most prestigious tournaments in the nation, as they wrestled in the Missouri Valley College Invitational on Friday and Saturday this past weekend.
In the 133 lb. division: Logan Ladach advanced to the second round thanks to a bye, and won his first match of the day on a 2-1 decision in round two. Round 3 saw Ladach struggle, as he lost a major decision 10-0 to drop him to the consolation bracket, where he lost 6-0 in his match there, finishing the tournament with a 1-2 record.
In the 149 lb. division: Ryan Weaver advanced to the second round on a bye, and lost his second round matchup 5-4 dropping him to the consolation bracket. In his first consolation bracket matchup, Weaver would win 8-6, but his next opponent would earna pin in 2:20 to eliminate him. Weaver went 1-2 in the tournament.
In the 157 lb. division: Hunter Kasey advanced to the second round on a bye, but lost his next matchup 21-5, and would eventually have to forfeit his consolation bracket matchup due to an injury, as Kasey finished the tournament 0-2.
In the 197 lbv. divison: Jacob Spiess advanced to the second round on a bye, and earned a pin in his next matchup. In round 3, Spiess was pinned himself, dropping him to the consolation bracket. In his first consolation bracket match, Spiess lost on a 10-8 decision to give him a 1-2 record in the tournament.
As a team, Cleary finsihed in 35th place out of 38 team with a total of 6.5 points. The Cougars will next be in action on Saturday, January 29, when they participate in a double dual against WHAC foes Indiana Tech and Lourdes. The first meet will begin at 12:00 PM.
