Bio

Serafin Llerena was named the head men's and women's cross country and track & field coach for Cleary University on Monday, March 20, 2023. 

During his time as Cleary's head coach, Llerena has coached 33 NAIA scholar-athletes, 3 national qualifiers, and 1 WHAC champion. 

Most recently, Samantha Hoelscher qualified for the NAIA national meet for the second straight season in the 400 M hurdles, with a time of 1:03.62.  In the 2024-25 season, Noah Simpson won the WHAC's outdoor track & field championship in the javelin with a throw of 59.59 M.  Teammate Samantha Hoelscher qualified for the national meet in the 400 M hurdles with a time of 1:02.22.  Coach Llerena has coached 5 Cougars across the six sports to all-conference status.  

Llerena had been the head men's and women's cross country coach at Jackson College from 2018-2023, and the head boys and girls track and cross country coach at Jackson Prep from 2017-2022.  

A native of Bangor, Michigan, Llerena ran collegiately at Olivet College, and was a team captain his junior and senior seasons.  He graduated from Olivet in 2011 with a degree in sports and fitness management.  He will graduate in December 2023 with a master's degree in sports coaching.

He lives in Jackson with his wife, Heather, and their son, Luca.
