(Arlington Heights, IL)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team played their second game in three days Sunday afternoon in the Chicago suburbs. After earning a 2-0 win at Taylor Friday evening, the Cougars were unable to come back with a pair of wins, as they fell to the host Roosevelt University Lakers 2-1 at Morris Field.
Roosevelt would strike first, as the Cougars committed a foul in the box after just seven minutes of game action, and the Lakers would convert the resulting penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. Roosevelt would control the remainder of the first half, as they held Cleary to 0 shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. However, Cleary would get new life late in the first half, as the Lakers committed a foul on a breaking Lesman Morazan, and the referee awarded a red card for denial of goal scoring opportunity. The Cougars would play the remainder of the game with a man advantage.
Ten minutes into the second half, Roosevelt would add what proved to be the game-winning goal, and took a 2-0 lead. That lead wouldn't last long, as Lesman Morazan pounced on a Laker turnover, and beat the goalie, scoring his third goal of the young season, and narrowing the deficit to 2-1. Cleary had a pair of golden opportunities to find the equalizer late, as Marcel Zanchin hit the side post, and a few minutes later, missed the net just high. Roosevelt would hold on, and give the Cougars their second loss of the season.
Diego Amezola-Orozco suffered his first loss of the season in goal, making 4 saves on 6 shots. Lesman Morazan led the Cougar offense with both shots on goal, and his third goal of the season.
Cleary is now 1-2 on the season. The Cougars will make their home debut next Saturday, September 2, when they welcome the Ohio Christian Trailblazers to Lake Trust Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM EDT.
