Men's Golf Takes 8th at WHAC Fall Preview
(Battle Creek, MI)-- After finishing in a tie for 7th place in Monday's 18-hole WHAC Fall Preview stroke play event, the Cleary Cougars men's golf team took on the Siena Heights Saints and the Cornerstone Golden Eagles in match play to determine the final team placement.
In Monday's Stroke Play
- Basile Malempre posted a +4, 76, to finish in a tie for 10th place
- Cameron Thomas shot a +8, 80, to finish in a tie for 28th
- Justin Reddy and Connor Stiles both fired an 81 to finish in a tie for 32nd
- Logan Smith shot an 82 to finish in 40th
As a team, the Cougars shot a 318 and tied for 7th with Cornerstone.
Due to tiebreakers, Cleary would take on Siena Heights, who tied for 5th in stroke play, in the first round of match play. The Saints and Cougars would both take 2.5 total points in match play, but the Saints would advance on a tiebreaker to advance into the 5th place match.
- Basile Malempre would take 0.5 points in his match
- Cameron Thomas dropped his match to SHU's Ben Ellis
- Logan Smith won his match vs. Siena Heights to earn a point
- Justin Reddy fell in his match, and
- Connor Stiles won his match to earn a point
In the 7th place match vs. Cornerstone
- Basile Malempre lost 3 & 2
- Cameron Thomas lost 4 & 3
- Logan Smith earned his second match play victory, as he won 1 up
- Justin Reddy lost 1 down, and
- Connor Stiles earned his second match play victory, winning 7 & 6
The Cougars final standing after match play put them in 8th place at the WHAC Fall Preview. Cleary will be back in action this Friday, September 30, when they host the Cleary Cougar JV/B Team Tournament at Chemung Hills Golf Club in Howell. The action will get underway at 10:00 AM.
