Esports Weekly Recap: Week of April 10
April 18, 2023
(Howell, MI)-- Here is the recap for Cleary esports for the week of April 10:
Last Monday: the Rocket League team played their first NACE playoff match after earning themselves a first round bye and some time off. They beat Kennesaw State University 4-1 in their best of 7 series to move on to their divisional finals against Central Michigan University, Tuesday, April 18, at 7pm
On Tuesday: League of Legends team faced off against Michigan Tech University in their NACE regular season, winning an easy 2-0 to move the League of Legends team to 6-0 on the season, also winning their 16th match in a row.
On Wednesday: Call of Duty team also played their first round of NACE playoffs to continue their undefeated season as well. They swept Southern Arkansas 3-0 remaining undefeated and advancing to their playoff divisional finals on Wednesday 4/19 against Clarke University
On Thursday: League of Legends team was back in action for their final NACE regular season game against national powerhouse Maryville University. Unfortunately they suffered their first individual map losses and series loss, falling 0-2 to Maryville and finishing the season as the second seed at 6-1. The NACE playoffs will begin this Tuesday, April 18, against Toronto Metropolitan University. Cleary is just two series wins away from the NACE National Finals in Indianapolis!
Also coming out early next week will be the official seeding for the CLoL National Championship, which will then begin the weekend of the 22nd. We are hoping for a favorable bracket draw for a chance to qualify for the top 8 in North America and a chance to play live in Los Angeles.

On Saturday: Call of Duty team competed in the Michigan (and friends) Bandwidth Bowl, facing off against select teams from around Michigan (plus a few other invited schools). Cleary played a total of six series over the course of Saturday morning and afternoon. The first match was a quick 3-0 against the University of North Dakota. After advancing through the first round Cleary lost their first match of the season to eventual tournament champions Eastern Michigan University 1-3. However Cleary was not done yet and made a spectacular lower bracket run beating Albion College, Lawrence Tech, and Ferris State all 3-0 to qualify for the Grand Finals rematch against Eastern Michigan. Unfortunately Cleary would fall again, this time 1-4 to EMU to finish second place overall.
The season is coming to an end and only a few of our teams are left competing in their playoff series, but there's still a lot on the line!
