Cincinnati-Clermont
(Batavia, OH)-- The Cleary Cougar baseball team concluded their weekend series in Ohio Sunday, with a second doubleheader against the Cougars of Cincinnati-Clermont.
In Game 1: Brett Parris threw another gem of a game on the mound, taking a two-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 1-0 Cleary lead. Cleary got that lead when Brice Wesley scored on a Jake VanderHaar single in the top of the sixth inning. After back to back singles off Parris in the bottom of the seventh, UC-Clermont would tie the game on a passed ball. Cleary would get out of the jam, and the game would go to extra innings. After being held scoreless in the top of the eighth, Cincinnati-Clermont took advantage of a leadoff double, and hit a two-out single to score the game's winning run.
Brett Parris earned a no-decision, allowing 1 unearned run on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts in 7 innings of work.
Brendan Seman and Brice Wesley each had two hits for the Cougars.
In Game 2: Cleary would respond in a big way in game two, scoring once in the first inning on a Ryan Rose RBI single, and then adding five more runs in the second inning, to build a 6-0 lead. An RBI groundout from Ryan Rose, and a Joey Parinello RBI single in the sixth would add two more runs for the visitors. Cleary would keep it going in the seventh, with a trio of insurance runs, courtesy of an Austin Gates RBI fielder's choice, a Brodie Mackay single, and a Zach Marsee sacrifice fly, making the score 11-0. UC-Clermont would add one run in the bottom half of the inning, but it wouldn't be enough, as Cleary went on to win 11-1.
Brendan Seman was dominant in his five innings of work, striking out 7, while only allowing 2 hits.
Brendan Seman, Brodie Mackay, Ryan Rose, and Matt Torresan all had multiple hits in the game.
Cleary took three out of four games in the series, and is now 6-4 overall. The Cougars will be back on the road next Saturday and Sunday to take on the nationally ranked University of the Cumberlands Patriots in a four game series.
