(Westfield, IN)-- The Cleary Cougar baseball team travelled back to Westfield, Indiana for a scheduled four-game series against the IU-Columbus Crimson Pride. Friday's game two, and Saturday's game one would both be cancelled due to the weather conditions, and the Cougars would bring back two wins to Michigan.
In Game 1: Cleary scored twice in the second inning to take an early lead. The Crimson Pride would come back to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning. Brice Wesley would hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the third, tying the game back up at 3-3. IU-Columbus would take the lead back once again in the bottom of the third. A pair of Austin Vincent and Brendan Seman triples would give the Cougars a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth, but IU-Columbus tied it, and took the lead again in the bottom of the fourth. The game turned on it's head in the top of the fifth, when Cleary's offense scored 15 runs, 12 with two outs to blow open the game. Brice Wesley had three at-bats in the top of the fifth inning alone.
Cleary would tie an NAIA record with 7 triples in the game.
Austin Vincent went 4/4 with 5 RBI in the game, while Brendan Seman went 3/4 with 4 RBI. Landon Kempainen Brodie Mackay each added 2 hits for the Cougars.
In Game 2: A Landon Kempainen triple in the top of the first inning would score Brendan Seman to make it 1-0 Cleary. One batter later, Brodie Mackay doubled home Kempainen to make it 2-0. A Joey Parinello single would score Mackay, and Cleary led 3-0 after the first inning. The Crimson Pride narrowed the gap in the third inning, scoring a pair of runs to make it 3-2. Brendan Seman would score after a Crimson Pride error, and Landon Kempainen scored after Brodie Mackay hit a double, making the score 5-2. Cleary would get an insurance run in the topof the seventh when Conner Boone singled home Austin Vincent, giving Cleary a 6-2 victory.
Brett Parris earned his second victory of the season to start 2-0, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. Austin Vincent, Brodie Mackay, and Joey Parinello each had two hits apiece in the game.
Cleary improves to 3-3 overall, and will travel to greater Cincinnati on Saturday to open a four-game series with Cincinnati-Clermont.
