(Mount Pleasant, MI) -- The Cleary Cougars baseball team traveled to Mount Pleasant, Michigan today to take on NCAA Division 1 Central Michigan Chippewas in a single game.
Central Michigan would come out with an early lead. They would score 4 runs on 6 hits after 3 innings of play. In the 5th inning, freshman Brice Wesley would get things going with a double to right field. Ben Cerven would then reach on an error allowing Wesley to advance to 3rd base. With Ben Cerven stealing second base and drawing the throw, Brice Wesley would steal home on the play for the Cougar's lone run on the afternoon. The Chippewas would go on to score 2 more runs in the 5th, 3 in the 6th, and 2 more in the 8th inning. The Cougars would threaten in the 8th and 9th innings but weren't able to scratch any more runs across, leaving them with an 11-1 loss.
Brody Fay (0-1) would suffer the loss on the mound, his first of the year. He finished with 1.2 innings pitched while allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits. Freshman Brice Wesley extended his hit streak to 11 games today as well after a 2-4 performance on the day.
The Cougars drop to 12-22 overall on the season. They look to pick WHAC Conference play back up tomorrow when they take on the Concordia University Cardinals as a makeup doubleheader from March 20th. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
