(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougars baseball team controlled their destiny as they looked to earn the school's first ever berth in the WHAC tournament, but was unable to come away with the necessary wins, as they dropped both games of Sunday's season ending doulbe-header to Indiana Tech.
In Game 1: Cleary's offense was held in check, as the Cougars were unable to score a run, and left 11 batters on base in the process, as the Warriors won game one 4-0. Haden Fisk threw a complete game in the loss, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3. Kristian Scalf, Billy Flohr, and Caleb Buda each had two hits to pace the Cougar offense.
In Game 2: A Sam Browne sacrifice fly scored Kristian Scalf to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 1st inning. Indiana Tech would add a run on a sac. fly of their own to take a 2-1 lead, but Cleary would re-tie the game at 2-2 when Albert Gonzalez hit a sac. fly to score Ben Cerven. That score would hold through the 9th, and free baseball would be played. With runners on 1st and 2nd in the 10th, Indiana Tech hit a double to take a 4-2 lead, and Cleary would be unable to rally and lost by that score.
Jacob Savina threw a no-decision, while Travis Klocek suffered the loss, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit in 4 innings of action. Billy Flohr had another 2/3 game, while Sam Browne and Marcel Garcia each had one hit for the Cougars.
Cleary finishes the season with a 28-21 record, 17-14 in the WHAC. The season ends after Lawrence Tech won their final game to advance to the WHAC tournament on win percentage points.
