(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar ACHA hockey team finished the 2025 portion of their schedule with a pair of wins over the Davenport Panthers.
In Game 1 at Davenport: Cleary would score once in the first period, and once in the third period to take a 2-0 lead. Zane Rydel scored the Cougars' first goal, with assists from Brett Woolcott and Steven Miller, in the first period. After a scoreless second period, Blair Krawchyk made it a 2-0 game when he scored, with an assist from Tommy Madden. The Panthers would score less than a minute later on a power play, to make it 2-1. The Cougars would hold on, thanks in large part to Nick Meyering being a brick wall in goal, to see out the win.
NicK Meyering made 52 saves on 53 shots on goal as he picked up his 10th win of the season.
In Game 2 vs. Davenport: The Cougars would once again open the game with a pair of goals to take a 2-0 lead, but this time both goals would be scored in the first period. JC Garbacik scored each of the first two goals, with the first being assisted by Blair Krawchyk and Brayden Goddard, and the second was assisted by Tommy Madden and Billy Simms. Davenport would score two goals in a span of 0:38 seconds in the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Braeden Bzovey would give the Cougars the lead with 0:16 seconds left in the second period, and the Cougars would lead 3-2 heading into the final stanza. Davenport would tie the game on a power play in the third period, and the Cougars would be unable to get the go-ahead goal down the stretch, and overtime would be required. The two teams would be kept off the scoreboard in overtime, forcing a shootout for the fourth time this season.
After JC Garbacik, Braeden Bzovey, and Bailey Ewonus were all kept off the scoreboard through the first three rounds of the shootout, captain Dylan Tammadge would convert in the fourth round to give the Cougars the win.
Vincent Parent would earn the shootout win, as he made 43 saves on 46 shots faced.
Cleary is now 16-2 overall (12 regulation wins, 2 losses, and 4 shootout wins). The Cougars will return to action after the New Year, when the Cougars take on the UM-Flint Wolverines for a two-game series beginning on January 9, 2026.
