(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar hockey team looked to stay hot this weekend as they welcomed the Davenport Panthers to the Ice Den for game one of the two teams' weekend series, but the visiting Panthers would slow down the Cougar attack.
Davenport jumped on the board in the early action of the first period, and though Cleary rained shots on goal, none of them were able to find the net, and the score would remain 1-0 after the first period. Davenport doubled their lead just past the fifteen minute mark of the second period to take further command of the game. Cleary would answer, when Zach Eakes scored, with an assist from Bennett Sheppard, to cut the lead to 2-1 in favor of Davenport. The momentum would stall, however, when the Panthers scored again just two minutes later, giving the guests a 3-1 lead.
Neither team would find the net in the third period, and Davenport would hold on to win by a 3-1 final score.
Tyler Krasofsky would suffer the loss in goal, as he made 35 saves on 38 shots faced.
Cleary drops to 9-14 overall, and will travel to Grand Rapids to face Davenport once again on Saturday, with the game scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
